Investment Management Built Around Your Life
A successful investment strategy begins with understanding what your money needs to accomplish—not simply choosing investments.
At Catalano Financial, we believe your portfolio should support your financial goals, retirement income needs, time horizon, and willingness and ability to accept investment risk.
Our approach combines disciplined, research-informed investment strategies with thoughtful portfolio construction, diversification, cost awareness, and ongoing oversight.
We help clients delegate the responsibility of managing their investments while maintaining a clear understanding of how their portfolios fit into their broader financial lives.
The goal isn’t to predict what markets will do next. It’s to build and maintain an investment strategy designed around what matters most to you.

How We Design Your Investment Strategy
No two investors have exactly the same financial circumstances. That’s why we begin by understanding the purpose behind your investments before recommending a portfolio.
Our investment planning process considers several important factors:
Your Financial Goals
Are you accumulating wealth, preparing for retirement, generating retirement income, or preserving assets for future generations? Each objective can influence how your investments should be structured.
Your Time Horizon and Risk Capacity
We consider both your comfort with market fluctuations and your financial ability to withstand losses. A portfolio should reflect not only how much risk you’re willing to take, but also how much risk your circumstances allow.
Your Income and Liquidity Needs
Money needed for near-term expenses may require a different investment approach than assets intended for long-term growth. Retirement distributions, planned purchases, and cash reserves all influence portfolio design.
Tax Awareness
Investment decisions can have tax consequences. We consider account types, asset location, and tax-efficient investment approaches when appropriate, coordinating with your tax professional when the engagement calls for it.
Your Existing Investments
Your financial life may include retirement accounts, employer-sponsored plans, concentrated stock positions, business interests, or investments held elsewhere. Understanding those assets helps us evaluate how a managed portfolio fits into your overall financial picture.
From Strategy to Implementation
Once we’ve established an appropriate investment strategy, we select and implement investments consistent with your objectives and the services you’ve engaged us to provide.
Our approach emphasizes diversification, disciplined portfolio construction, attention to investment costs, and research-informed decision-making.
We believe successful investing is less about reacting to every market headline and more about maintaining a thoughtful strategy as markets and personal circumstances change.
What Happens After Your Portfolio Is Invested?
Building an investment portfolio is only the beginning. Financial markets change, personal circumstances evolve, and your investment strategy may need adjustments along the way.
At Catalano Financial, investment management is an ongoing responsibility—not simply a one-time portfolio recommendation.
Portfolio Monitoring
We oversee managed portfolios to evaluate whether their investment allocations remain consistent with the agreed investment strategy.
Market movements can change the balance between stocks, bonds, and other investments. Monitoring helps identify when adjustments may be appropriate.
Rebalancing and Portfolio Adjustments
Over time, some investments may grow faster than others, changing your portfolio’s risk exposure.
Rebalancing, when appropriate, helps bring the portfolio back toward its intended allocation. Adjustments may also be considered when your financial circumstances, investment objectives, or risk tolerance change.
Tax-Aware Investment Decisions
Taxes can influence investment outcomes.
Where appropriate and available under the selected investment strategy and platform, we consider tax-efficient portfolio management techniques, including tax-loss harvesting and asset location.
Tax strategies depend on account type, eligibility, market conditions, and individual circumstances. We coordinate with tax professionals when appropriate to the engagement.
Investment Costs and Portfolio Efficiency
Investment expenses can affect long-term results.
We evaluate investment costs alongside diversification, investment methodology, and the role each investment serves within the portfolio.
Our objective is to use a disciplined investment approach rather than encourage unnecessary trading or frequent changes based on short-term market predictions.
Reviewing Your Investment Strategy
Your investment strategy should evolve when your life changes.
Retirement, a business sale, a significant change in income, or a new financial goal may create reasons to revisit your portfolio.
We review investment objectives and allocations as appropriate to the advisory relationship, helping clients understand whether their investment strategy continues to serve its intended purpose.
Investment management provides ongoing portfolio oversight. Clients who want broader financial planning, implementation tracking, and coordination with other professionals may benefit from our Strategic Wealth Partnership.
Our Investment Philosophy: Research, Discipline, and Diversification
At Catalano Financial, we believe investment decisions should be grounded in research and guided by a long-term strategy—not predictions about the next market movement.
Our investment philosophy draws upon decades of academic research, including the work of economists Eugene Fama and Kenneth French, whose research helped advance our understanding of the factors associated with investment returns.
This research supports an approach that emphasizes broad diversification, thoughtful portfolio construction, attention to costs, and disciplined investing.
Applying Research to Real Portfolios
We evaluate investment strategies and solutions based on their suitability for each client’s objectives, risk profile, and circumstances.
Depending on the engagement and available platform, those solutions may include diversified portfolios, exchange-traded funds, and investment approaches informed by the research associated with Dimensional Fund Advisors.
We also utilize Betterment‘s investment management technology for appropriate client portfolios, including tools that may support portfolio monitoring, rebalancing, and tax-aware investing.
The investment platform is a tool. The more important responsibility is selecting and maintaining a strategy appropriate for the client.
Staying Disciplined Through Changing Markets
Markets will experience periods of growth, uncertainty, and decline. Attempting to predict each movement can lead to unnecessary trading and emotional decisions.
Our approach focuses on maintaining a diversified investment strategy, reviewing changes in client circumstances, and making adjustments when appropriate.
We believe the purpose of investment management is to help your money serve your financial life—not to make your financial life revolve around the markets.
Investment Management or Strategic Wealth Partnership: Which Is Right for You?
Professional investment management can be an excellent solution for individuals and families who want to delegate portfolio decisions while maintaining responsibility for their broader financial planning.
But investments are only one part of your financial life.
Retirement income, tax planning, estate considerations, insurance, business interests, and major financial decisions may require a more coordinated approach.
At Catalano Financial, we offer two ongoing advisory relationships to address different needs.
Strategic Portfolio Management

Designed for clients who want professional investment management, including portfolio construction, monitoring, and adjustments when appropriate.
Our Strategic Portfolio Management relationship generally begins with a minimum of $250,000 in managed assets, with fees based on the assets we manage.
Strategic Wealth Partnership
Designed for clients who want a broader, ongoing advisory relationship that goes beyond their investment portfolio.
Strategic Wealth Partnership includes comprehensive financial planning, three structured progress meetings annually, the Catalano Financial Action Plan, and coordination with outside professionals when appropriate.
The annual advisory fee begins at $15,000, with a separately billed initial comprehensive financial plan.
